Cover of Microtrends
  • Very much disappointed

    Disappointed:

    1. Sometimes the graphs only show the magnitudes of the years mentioned/sampled. I personally doubt if the trends are all so linear - if not, then the figures could be misleading.

    2. Only the trend itself is not enough - I believe the readers would wish to see more co-relations/co-variance (in a more quantitative approach) with other issues. The books failed to achieve this.

After all, the trends mentioned in the book are not really interesting. ... (continue)

Cover of The Long Tail
  • Good points but...

To me the book's a bit lengthy with respect to the amount of points presented. No major complaints, except for that the book was not discussing anything about the impact of P2P Sharing to the Long Tail. IMHO the discussion could not complete while excluding this issue from the digital world.

    Very so-so

After reading the Freakonomics, I was having some expectations on these kind of books/topics. However, The Undercover Economist was definitely disappointing. Some of the discussions and topics were food for thought. However, some examples the author cited were not valid. Similarly, some arguments he raised were *oversimplified* which sounds as naive/invalid/arrogant as the points he wished to attack that I couldn't stop shaking my head. The author also failed to conclude his arguments logically for each chapter. After all, I feel like I was listening to a radio's entertainment programme other than some insights from an economist. ... (continue)

    Interesting but...

The ideas are interesting, yet very few things have been discussed in the book. I quite like the discussion in showing how different factors are correlated statistically. However, as some other readers have already mentioned, the lengthy discussions on some single topic (e.g. name) was a bit... awkward. ... (continue)

The most practical one so far

I'm not a big fans of the "Prioritization" theory... Mood DOES affect my concentration and efficiency. It's difficult to judge which measure is better and my belief is to pick the one which is most suitable to ourselves. That's why I found this book was a bit outstanding from other time management books. ... (continue)

Cover of Thinking Strategically
Cover of Rich dad, poor dad
Cover of How to Talk to Anyone
  • A good one for this context

If you love Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends & Influence People, then you would love this one as well. I would regard the tips as some "fine-tunings" for the social conversations. It is hard to tell if most of the tips would really work well, but the book itself is definitely a good one for this context. ... (continue)
