Tom Brown at Oxford! Delightful story! -
"Not nearly so successful as 'Tom Brown's School Days'" said the book review. However, I found it a great joy to read. It has a much wider canvass than just Oxford and thus introduces the reader to other types of characters - in particular the villager Englebourn. The chapter entitles 'The Village C ... (

Bedlam: London's Hospital for the Mad! -
An easy to read book, yet one that includes much detail about the treatment of insanity in this country over the last 800 years. The main subject of the author's investigation concerns the history of Bethlem Hospital, London, the oldest mental establishment in the world. Right from the early days th ... (

He may be small - but what a mighty man! -
We all know something about Tutu. For the last few decades he has filled the news headlines and been flashed across our television screens. His small stature, his infectious laugh, his bold stand against Apartheid - yes, I knew something about him. But did I really? No, definitely not! This magnific ... (

Justification by Faith: Piper combines clarity, scholarship and passion! -
The New Perspective on justification by faith has over the years caused confusion for a number of Bible believing Christians. Here in this book John Piper deals with the arguments of N.T. Wright, one of the leading proponents of this rehashed view of justification. Basically, the problem is that the ... (

I found this book irresistible. It is more exciting than a novel. Professor Andrews writes with such consummate skill it is difficult to fault. Many today are influenced by the theory of evolution, including numerous Christians. This is, in many ways, understandable. Too few churches - I mean by that ministers of churches - attempt to bring the Biblical teaching on creation before their congregations. It may be that the ministers are incapable of doing so; are afraid of being ridiculed if they do; or, possible, are themselves enmeshed by the theory of evolution. Whatever may be the reason Christians are growing-up accepting evolution as a fact. The media make much of the theory so that there is a continuous run of films on TV, or articles in magazines, declaring as a fact this anti-Christian doctrine of Darwinism.
The book is not written by a rabid anti-evolutionist, but a well-qualified scientist who, as a Christian, faces the anger of atheist Richard Dawkins and his neo-Darwinists with well-argued scientific fact and analysis, in stating his belief in the Biblical doctrine of creation. Although written in simple terms, for those not familiar with Einstein's theory of relativity, quantum mechanics, string theory, etc., some of it is hard going, but it is well worth the effort. To explain some of the more exacting demands on those of us with a non-scientific background, Andrews uses such characters as a 'jelly pod' or even the well-known Sooty. He conjures up ferrets, steam engines, and toast together with large helpings of cereal and yoghurt to enable us to grasp the significance of his scientific arguments.
Professor Andrews possesses that rare ability to present scientific argument and theological teaching in a form that I found utterly compelling. Christians need to read this book. It is not only a wonderfully exciting read, it is fillip to one's faith in a time when the forces of darkness are raging against God's infallible Word.
