The Finer Points of Sausage Dogs

-
A brief, madcap romp around the world--travel is not a desire of the main character. Its style reminded me of P.G. Wodehouse, and so did its hilarity--which comes at every turn.

This collection of brief essays seeks to connect the Scriptures with daily life. The sentence on its back cover remains a vivid description of its author's purpose. I recognize its echoes from the days when he was my teacher of New Testament.

This is part of an 8-vol. series, "Rediscovering Vatican II," marking the 40th anniversary of that most recent ecumenical council.
While this may be used as a graduate level text, I am savoring it slowly.

Subtitled, "What Christians Believe and Why It Matters," expressed Luke T. Johnson's convictions that belief structures one's existential response to God; and that the creed allows the church to be the household of those seeking to respond to God with their daily lives.

Mr. Isaacson had access to the previously sealed Einstein Correspondence Trust. His rendering of Albert and his family and his correspondents makes his genius as humane as I've read it.

United States Catholic Catechism for Adults

-
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops [USCCB] published this. It adapts the Catechism of the Catholic Church for Latin- and Eastern-rite Catholics in the United States.
Its vignettes of sainted people help make the sections concrete and possible to live by readers.

Whence the catalog of seven deadly sins?
How do they work in person's life?
Sr. Funk's remarkably makes all that accessible so one can put into practice how thoughts matter. -

This brings Sr. Funk's earlier "Thoughts Matter" to an accessible conclusion. I highly recommend beginning with that earlier book.

Fascinating read about Leonardo's synthetic mind. He had a unified notion of reality, which caused him to make some erroneous conclusions. However, he correctly observed the wave pattern of light and of sound centuries ahead of others. Leonardo's weakness in mathematics reminded me of Albert Einstein, who also sought a unified theory of the universe.
