Non tanto nello sviluppo del giallo, che in ogni caso è molto ben fatto, in quanto il colpevole sarà per tutti una sorpresa, nonostante come da manuale del perfetto scrittore di gialli, l'autrice abbia dato quasi subito tutti gli elementi per individuarlo.
Io almeno non ci son arrivato che nella pagina precedente alla sua rivelazione.
Cmq no, la bellezza maggiore di questo romanzo è nella dolcissima rappresentazione dell'indissolubile quanto labile legame tra Camille e Adamsberg.
Fantastici tutti i comprimari, non era facile rinunciare ad una spalla tanto efficace ed ingombrante come Danglard.

I usually don't love Sabretooth as character, he's so stupidly evil that sometimes gets to bore me, but this volume...

I usually don't love Sabretooth as character, he's so stupidly evil that sometimes gets to bore me, but this volume...
...this volume could list among the finest of pleasures just for one's eyes, thanks to Simone Bianchi's terrific job.
Then, the story.
I repeat it, I'm not a huge fan of the stories based on Sabretooth, but here there's much much more and all sensibilities can be suited.
Romulus and Remus raise the bar quite so high that Logan's ending prize can be almost phisically felt by the reader too...
...and WHAT a feeling!!! ;-D

...an evil Storm? AWESOME!!!
...an evil Namor? it was about time!!!
...an evil Thor? he's not evil, it's the hormones that no matters the ambientation, they always overfill his skull (I didn't mention brains on purpose)
...an evil Cyclops? ahahah YES overly lovely, and it's absolutely terrific that even in this stance he's still the N°1 of multiverse's loosers!!! ;-)
...an evil Xavier? thruth ALWAYS get to surface, sooner or later!!!
But, more than anything else, how gorgeous is Dazzler?
I'm so happy that she's been brought up as main character, and she's so well into this story that shines brightly over all the others.
All 'n' all, what could she do other than that? here Dazzler can rightly use Wolverine's trademark statement "I'm the best in what I do", i.e. be the Mighty Light's wielding arm!
And what to say about all the "costumes" she wore along the whole story!
Special mention - OF COURSE!!! :-)°°° ) to the ancient greeks style one (mmm, fighting in super-thin two pieces and sandals is soooo goddessly-like!!!), but all the others perfectly suit a 360° description of the Dazzler persona.
Thumbs up!

E con questo, è purtroppo finita anche la corsa di Ugo Pastore.
Non ho segnato tutti 18 numeri ma ovviamente li ho letti tutti dall'inizio.
Inevitabile farsi distrarre continuamente dal confronto con Volto Nascosto, ma personalmente non mi crea ambasce, dato che concordo totalmente con lo scritto d ... (continue)

E con questo, è purtroppo finita anche la corsa di Ugo Pastore.
Non ho segnato tutti 18 numeri ma ovviamente li ho letti tutti dall'inizio.
Inevitabile farsi distrarre continuamente dal confronto con Volto Nascosto, ma personalmente non mi crea ambasce, dato che concordo totalmente con lo scritto di commiato della Redazione, in cui si rivendica grande innovazione rispetto alla precedente saga.
E innovazione c'è stata, eccome.
Per di più su un soggetto oggettivamente spinoso, difficile e potenzialmente irto di trappole.
Ben diverso dalla cmq bellissima ricostruzione storica dell'epoca coloniale italiana, di cui oggettivamente non ci manca materiale di riferimento.
Sceneggiature sempre in bilico tra la potenza espressiva dei passaggi guerreschi e la struggente intimità dei tanti intrecci umani che caratterizzano tutte le sotto-storie.
Sembra quasi che non sia stato trascurato dalla narrazione nemmeno uno, dei possibili comportamenti umani estremi, tanto nel bene quanto nel male.
Si potebbe andare avanti per ore, a cogliere e citare questo o quel particolare, perché in Shanghai Devil non manca nulla.
Neppure il "domandone" finale...
Eccellente, mi mancherà MOLTISSIMO, certamente sul podio dei "most missing", a fianco di Magico Vento (che strano eh...) e Gea (se qualcuno sta pensando a Ken Parker... non posso fare confronti perché... non l'ho mai letto... per quanto possa sembrare impossibile e nonostante la mia casa letteralmente trabocchi di albi bonelli degli ultimi 20-25 anni).
Quindi ennesimo, enorme "BRAVO" a Manfredi ed ovviamente a tutto lo staff, mi sembra ancora solo ieri di aver comprato i primi numeri, altro che un anno e mezzo.

Millar "knows stuff", that's it.

I myself sometimes feel vaguely ashamed of actually enjoy a story because its main character is bound to endure such awful misfortune, hard times, grief and so on...
Let me go looking for a Black Cat vs Wolverine episode, after this ordeal I need a laugh!!!

Ecco un altro numero di Le Storie che merita davvero una citazione.
Le vette de La redenzione del samurai non si raggiungono, ma sono lì a portata di mano.
Un bellissimo racconto dal tono onirico, apparentemente scontato eppure mai banale, con un intreccio sopraffino tra realtà, sogno, reminescenza ... (continue)

Ecco un altro numero di Le Storie che merita davvero una citazione.
Le vette de La redenzione del samurai non si raggiungono, ma sono lì a portata di mano.
Un bellissimo racconto dal tono onirico, apparentemente scontato eppure mai banale, con un intreccio sopraffino tra realtà, sogno, reminescenza e dissociazione, per un finale di rara fattura, completezza ed esaustività.
Anche la continua citazione di Solaris non è per nulla buttata lì, anzi, rimane assai funzionale senza mai essere invasiva.
Proprio una collana da 5 stelle! certo... non si può pretendere la luna (ehm...) tutti i mesi, ma insomma, su 5 uscite già due sono fuori scala, e le altre tre sono cmq a livelli molto elevati... cosa si può desiderare di più?

Allora, prima di tutto un avviso importantissimo:
NON LEGGETE LA PREFAZIONE PRIMA DEL LIBRO.
Io ancora non mi capacito di come l'editore abbia lasciato uscire una prefazione così incredibilmente spoilerante.
Quindi, lasciate stare la prefazione e leggetevela alla fine, insieme alla Postfazione.
Detto questo, il libro secondo me è molto bello, ma DA QUI IN POI la recensione potrà contenere SPOILER da moderati a importanti, quindi se non l'avete ancora letto, ripassate più tardi. ;-)
Non comprendo neppure tutti i discorsi tendenti a classificarlo come opera minore, così come sarei pure curioso di sapere cosa avrà mai avuto da dire lo stesso Dick, contro questa sua opera.
Sì, certo, il finale forse corre un po' troppo, e di tanto in tanto si ha l'impressione - ma secondo me è solo un'impressione - che la prosa stessa sia poco... "sentita"... variando dal didascalico all'eccessivamente elementare.
Ecco, secondo me invece è tutto un effetto perfettamente integrato nella sensazione che tutta la vicenda vuole trasmettere, ossia il pernicioso, crudele, indecente pressapochismo dell'accoppiata politica-affarismo, che di fatto è la madre di tutti i problemi del mondo.
TUTTI coloro che "contano", non si fanno scrupoli di prendere iniziative anche molto forti, senza tuttavia ragionarci su neppure 5 minuti, mentre chi non conta nulla, si trova a dover ragionare niente meno che con l'opportunità di togliersi di mezzo.
Persino chi almeno la buona volontà ce la metterebbe, viene o stritolato dall'ingranaggio o integrato - volente o nolente - nel sistema.
Stereotipo qualunquista?
No, triste realtà.
D'altronde, sarà anche stato scritto negli anni '60 del secolo scorso, ma com'è che dopo al massimo una pagina e mezza, ci si ritrova già a dire "oh, ma è come oggi, ugualeugualeugualeee!!!
