Good read - the book is well-researched and tells quite the compelling story of Herman Perry, a black GI stationed in Burma during World War II who kills an unarmed white officer, disappears into the jungle and lives with a native tribe in the mountains of Burma for a time.

Not my favorite Murakami, but I still thought it was pretty great.

It’s just an old fashioned love story: Boy meets best friend’s girlfriend. Best friend commits suicide. Boy and girl fall in love under the specter of best friend’s death. Girl goes insane.

What does it all mean? Who the heck knows but I thought it was brilliant.

One of the best books I've ever read. It's poetic, beautiful and wacky and weird. I won't even try to describe the plot - it's Murakami after all....but trust me. Read it!
