Sarah Waters is always an enjoyable author to read. A good, easy to read ghost story. I'm not sure if I like the ending or feel slightly disappointed by it at the moment. May need to mull for a couple of weeks before I'm sure.

Brilliant -
This is based on a true expedition to find the Northwest Passage. The two expedition ships HMS Erebus and Terror vanished almost without trace. This book is a wonderful exercise in what if.

Why can't people write decent Robin Hood Pro-Fanfic? -
Marion Zimmer Bradley's Lady of Sherwood is a bit of a dull feminist effort with a hint "post-traumatic stress disorder". This feels like the author wanted to write a mafia story, but chose Robin Hood so that he could justify a lot of gory, historical violence (different times, different standards a ... (

Stick with it till the end - it's worth it. -
Like the best Stephen King books, I enjoyed reading this, but didn't want it near my bed while I slept - it was quite menacing, but a very good read.
The general opinion of my book club was that it was very good but could have been a bit shorter and some of the location descriptions were a bit too m ... (continue ) -

Did the joke wear thin? -
This sounded like such a weird mix and I was curious about how quickly the joke would wear thin. It worked surprisingly well and a lot more coherently than I thought it would. There are some fun illustrations too.
It made me want to watch the brilliant BBC adaptation from the 1990s again. But I'm al ... (continue ) -

The Pillars of the Earth
Number 33 on the BBC Big Read list - Pillars of the Earth is definitely justified a top 50 spot on the list. It's an epic, well-written book.
