Coming to it at different times, dropping into it at different places, it always has something to say that helps me find the center of the earth again, to paraphrase a character from another story, in another time.

And there's no way to bring to the screen what happens in the Chief's head - a huge part of the book's narrative, and a sign of McMurphy's effect on the men.
