The first part of the book is pretty fascinating: comparing the rise of cloud services with the adoption of the electric power at the end of the '800 is smart and inspiring (despite differences between the two are highlighted only a bit too late in the book). The second part of the book on the contrary is a weak collection of warnings and potential dangers related to the Internet (spam, governance, etc.)

Malcolm Gladwell's books are usually unconventional and inspiring. Outliers is not an exception to this, but this time Gladwell is sometimes too simplicistic in his explanations, often confusing correlation and causation.

Malcolm Gladwell's books are usually unconventional and inspiring. Outliers is not an exception to this, but this time Gladwell is sometimes too simplicistic in his explanations, often confusing correlation and causation.
It's interesting anyway to underline how recently several authors are writing essays about the impact of luck/destiny on our lives (ex. Taleb's "The Black Swan"): the classical topic "fortuna vs. virtus" is still an evergreen.

Schegge preziose in un libro non memorabile

La lettura di Carlo Fruttero é sempre piacevole, ma questa raccolta di memorie (ritagli e contributi in parte già pubblicati altrove), non convince: ha tanto il sapore dell'operazione editoriale.
Alcuni brani e breve descrizioni sono comunque notevoli e valgono da sole la lettura del libro come ad e ... (continue)

Alcuni brani e breve descrizioni sono comunque notevoli e valgono da sole la lettura del libro come ad esempio "La piscina di Chichita (vedova di Italo Calvino), "Con Lucentini aspettando Godot" (sull'amicizia con Lucentini) ed il toccante ricordo della moglie (in "Nep Szabadap".

Il libro é un inno al "non mollare" ed un elogio alla capacità di reagire alle avversità delle vita. Il tutto raccontato attraverso storie, prevalentemente tratte dalla realtà americana del dopo-crisi, di persone che hanno saputo rialzarsi e vincere le difficoltà.

Il libro é un inno al "non mollare" ed un elogio alla capacità di reagire alle avversità delle vita. Il tutto raccontato attraverso storie, prevalentemente tratte dalla realtà americana del dopo-crisi, di persone che hanno saputo rialzarsi e vincere le difficoltà.
E' un testo scorrevole, che si fa leggere rapidamente per lo stile giornalistico piacevole e asciutto.
Dopo aver letto Taleb ("Il cigno nero") trovo però sbagliato il titolo e la morale del libro "La fortuna non esiste; esiste il momento in cui il talento incontra l'occasione".
La fortuna esiste eccome e la capacità di reagire ad un'avversità non é purtroppo sempre sinonimo di successo; non a caso il libro, seguendo la tradizione degli "exempla" elenca soltanto i casi positivi di persone che ce l'hanno fatta.
La realtà é sempre più articolata: esistono anche molte persone che pur reagendo ad una difficoltà non ce le fanno, proprio per mancanza di fortuna, perchè il loro talento non ha incontrato l'occasione.
In sintesi nobile l'intento di promuovere lo spirito di reazione alle avversità, logicamente errata e un po' semplicistica la lezione morale.

Un libro/blog da non perdere per tutti coloro che sono stati a Cuba (fuori da un resort) o hanno in programma un viaggio nell'isola.
Yoani svela tutta l'ipocrisia e le contraddizioni dell'ideologia castrista raccontando la quotidianità della vita a Cuba. La demistificazione della retorica sulla felicità dei Cubani (con buona pace di Minà...) ed un monito contro tutti gli assolutismi ed i regimi di qualsiasi colore.

I've come across Chip & Dan Heath, authors of this book, reading their monthly column on the magazine Fast Company.
"Made to Stick" is a good book: it can be considered a complement to the well known "The Tipping Point" by M. Gladwell as the same authors state at in the introduction.

I've come across Chip & Dan Heath, authors of this book, reading their monthly column on the magazine Fast Company.
"Made to Stick" is a good book: it can be considered a complement to the well known "The Tipping Point" by M. Gladwell as the same authors state at in the introduction.
Briefly it's a short manual of concrete suggestions on how to make your ideas stick: meaning that your ideas are understood and remembered and have a lasting impact.
While some of the concepts presented are known and the american way of trying to structure a successful behaviour in a repeatable frame (SUCCESs) can result annoying, the book is full of good stuff and is worth reading.

Sarò sincero: il libro ti prende, perchè alla fine, come in ogni poliziesco/thriller degno di questo nome, vuoi sapere come va a finire.
Ciò detto secondo me l'autore é troppo verboso, abbonda in dettagli inutili (a proposito ma quanti litri di caffè sono stati consumati nel libro ?), poco cred ... (continue)

Ciò detto secondo me l'autore é troppo verboso, abbonda in dettagli inutili (a proposito ma quanti litri di caffè sono stati consumati nel libro ?), poco credibile quando si scende nel tecnico (es. il modo in cui il computer del "cattivo" viene hackerato é ridicolo...) e un po' scontato nella descrizione dei personaggi.
