Although characters are quite plain and it's full of common places, the book is so action-packed and the dialogues are so witty that I can't help recommending this book.
In Goodreads it appears as #1 in "Books That Everyone Should Read At Least Once" and "Best Books of the 20th Century" lists. It's there because it deserves it: It's able to move things inside you all the time.
This is, so far, the best novel in the series. Rowling left back the wrong and tedius path taken in the Order in the Phoenix to get back to the main track. The school life is gradually left behing to focus on the fighiting againt the Dark side. The last quarter of the book is a real turn-pager.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The action stops after the previous volume cliffhanger. Too many pages for so little story.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The plot becomes darker and more adult. I hope the rest of the saga holds the level of this volume.
