I was disappointed with this offering. I have read two previous books by Bayard and this one did not capture my interest or imagination as did the others.

This is an absolutely wonderful read. It's complex, complicated and completely compelling. I was disappointed to learn that it is a sequel; I would have preferred to have read the first one before becoming so engrossed in this story that I couldn't put it down! Such a well designed identity thriller ... (

I found this to be an incraedibly stupid story with no reclaiming attributes. If this is a true example of this author's style, this will be the last book of his that I read. I should have quit after 50 pages.

Wonderful book and a compulsive read. Impeccably researched and told in language that transports the reader into the times. Stark portrayal of the negligible medical abilities on (and off) the war field. Remarkable that even so few survived, considering the conditions. Highly recommended.

This real life memoir re-enforces the realization that the hectic pace and intense materialistic life style of our American life, gets in the way of meaningful relationships and personal fulfillment. This is nothing new, but it is good to be reminded that the real values in life are much simpler and ... (

This story is intended to be "cute", with an eleven year old precocious protagonist. I simply could not become involved with it. I'm annoyed when children are allowed to upstage perfectly intelligent adults and make them appear to be stupid! This series seems more suited to a young readership.

Purely delightful. No depth here, just complete excapism and fun. A typical Dorothy Gilman book. No Mrs. Polifax, but just as entertaining!

This is a "quiet" book. There are no earth shattering events, teeth clenching dramas or heart rending romances. It is a tale of friendship between two disparate females with one commom interest, hunting nature's "treasures" along beaches in England in the early 19th century. This seems simple enough ... (

A totally engrossing book. Once I started, it was hard to put it down. Not, at all, my usual genre, but the writing style and plot capatured me from page one. It certainly makes one aware of how vulnerable our computer age involvment has made up. A bit terrifying, actually. And, where have morals gone? Not to mention, ethics. Even with these disturbing areas, it was a thrilling and compelling read.
