Nushisamahe

A cute fantasy set in Edo period in Japan with Japanese folklore, supernatural creatures.. Nice details of people's life in those days with interesting stories. Very pleasant reading.

Bit too commercial because some of his opinions are too provocative to raise 'worries' of people about Japan's future? Some makes sense but in the end, only a few key points, the nature of 'Homeless money' etc are true. Not more than that.

Very peculiar book to me. I still don't know how to take it, but somehow it left warm feeling. and I am now interested in reading other books of the same author..

A story about a girl who is destined to become 'Oiran' - high prostitute and a boy who is to become a monk... in 'Yoshiwara' area, an old district of Tokyo where for over 200 years known as official red light district with distinct culture... Written by Ichiyo, who died at only 24 yrs old who once lived actually near Yoshiwara district.
Style is very 'different'. It has unique atmosphere ... Not saying everything, implying lot.. has big impact. Details about daily life - festivals, how to wear, shoes, hair style, are fascinating. Don't know how much this can be translated into English, but highly recommended if you are interested in Japanese culture.
