erotismo troppo brutto e misticismo necrofilo. A questo si aggiunga la mia scarsa o nulla propensione alla filosofia e al nichilismo che mi è sembrato di vedere qui. Un grande autore, mi dicono, ma la mia testa rifiuta di contenerlo. L'odio a prima vista è terribile, chi lo ha provato mi crederà.

mi hanno detto che è una bella esperienza. Quest'anno ho tentato ma ho mollato subito, quando Don Abbondio incontra "due individui della specie de' bravi" (se ho sbagliato la citazione non bocciatemi). Il "momento magico" non è ancora arrivato se mai arriverà. L'importante è non prendersela.

After 30 or more years of currently reading English and American literature, this is the one book I am not able to read. I realized from the start I just do not possess the linguistic ability. Too many idiomatic sentences. Plus, the story is set in the country and I am a town-dweller unable to go beyond a given point. Besides, the Author inflates language for stilistic reasons (one of the many adjectives on the cover is "Rabelaisian"). No amount of "Slang Dictionaries" can help me.
This is not, of course, a comment on the novel -- just a way to voice frustration.
