not 'the best', but very good nonetheless -
this is probably not a masterpiece, but it is a very intriguing novel, with pace and rithm. i was worried about the ending, when i reached the last 20 pages, but brunner didn't disappoint me (the way haldeman did in 'forever peace').
this book could go in the 'un-put-down-able' ones. -

good book about the stuka -
i never loved the stuka very much.
to me it always represented the 'nazi'. the fw 190 is my favourite german airplane of the time, and i don't feel it 'too nazi'.
anyway, this is a good book about the subject. it doesn't cover the whole story (there's nothing about russia or the mediterrean campaing ... (continue ) -

SBD Dauntless Units of World War 2

for all book in this series, but also only for this one -
i don't know why they called it 'so-and-so units'. they don't really talk about the units. it is more the operational story of the airplain, with a short introduction about origins and development.
about this specific book, i'm not a particular fan of barret tilman's. i found all his book so far ki ... (

just pictures -
some history about the airplanes (captions do not count as such) would have made the book interesting.

not the best book about WWII -
this book is disappointing on many fronts.
the structure is not clear: there's no timeline, neither frontline: what i mean by this is there events don't follow a timeline (showing what happen at the same time in different parts of the world) not the frontline history (going on one front and followin ... (continue ) -

in this antology are collected some of the most 'vintage' heinlein short stories. according to the foreword, some are untouched from when they were written. i beg to differ.
for examples, 'blowups happen' talks about hiroshima, nagasaki and the dropping of the atom bomb, but it was written in 1940. how is it possible? was heinlein seeing the future? i doubt it. this is probably the 1946 version, no matter what the foreword says.
besides this, the book is pleasant to read. you get to know heinlein better, and i liked this.
i always liked heinlein for his clear thinking and his way of explaining things. not always i agree with him, but i think he always gives me food for thoughts.
some of the articles reapeat the same thing over and over (the communist threat, no need for a military draft, the inadequacy of the school system), but still are enjoyable.
