disappointment -
i've been disappointed by this book, that everyone consider very good.
the first reason is that it lacks a map of the battle and i don't think this makes thing easy for the reader.

The USS Enterprise: The World's First Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier

not too detailed but good -
if you're a modeler, this book is for you. there are a lot of picture and a very nice analysis of existing model kits. the story of the ship is briefly described, but it's not badly done .. just not enough for me :-)

The Aircraft Carrier Story, 1908-1945

after it reading a second time -
this book tries to explain how carriers were developed by the 3 major navies that used them (Great Britain, USA and Japan) in WWII.
Each navy is followed from the beginning (circa 1908) up to the end of WWII, with details about construction, tactics, airplanes, pilot training and so on. a good descr ... (continue ) -

but .. both nimitz and yamamoto gambled. nimitz won, but gambled nonetheless. had yamamoto won (let's say american carriers were found before their airplanes found the japs, or were spotted by the sub cordon) would it seem so obvious?
