Cosa succede quando un grande intelletto è rinchiuso in un piccolo uomo meschino e pigro? Una catastrofe ben raccontata. L'ottimo stile di McEwan non riesce però a sopperire ad una certa noia strisciante. Nulla di grave, il libro rimane piacevole anche se ad un passo dall'essere veramente bello.
