This is an intriguing and comprehensive look at how complexity arise from deep simplicity, which span subjects as diverse as astronomy, chemistry, economics, geography, biology. A truly enjoyable read, the author attempts to explain the simple rules in Universe and its road to chaos and complexity with easily understandable language. However, I do think you need a certain science background (at least up to high school level) to truly enjoy the theories presented in the book.
The illustrations are crucial to support the concepts, although I do wish there are a few more to make the point.
