This was another sort of romance plot. It was set in the 80s, there was a guy who was developing a computer programme in Chinese while his wife went off to America to study and she wanted to live there and he wanted to work on computers in China. He also had a female friend who helped him get a job and fed him and eventually his wife wrote him a letter saying they should get divorced. It was a little dull as his wife spent the entire book in America you really had no sympathy for them as a couple. It did say they were married but they didn't seem to be, it probably would have worked much better if they were only dating. But oh well. The important thing with these books is not the plot but the really great practice. The fact they could write a letter from a wife to her husband saying they should divorce and why with a vocabulary of only 300 words was most impressive.
