Book Description

樋口一葉可以說是明治時代的重要作家之一。她雖然英年早逝〈享年24歲〉，但所遺留的22篇中、短篇小說、 70餘冊日記，以及超過4000首的和歌詠草，影響著日本現代文學甚鉅，是明治時代三才媛之一。

她的一生幾乎都花在寫作上，即使病重也不停筆，有如受文魔驅使。其文章風格雖平淡卻充滿張力，曾被當時文壇怪傑齊藤綠雨譽為「冷笑寫血淚」。文學界也成立了「樋口一葉研究會」，其人傳記還被nhk拍成影集。2004年日本政府將其肖像印製在日幣5000元鈔票上，可見對這位「古日本最後的女性」的推崇。

她的小說多取材於其居住的東京半下流社會，筆致細膩綿密，對世態百相刻畫入微，陋巷中的庶民眾生、男女歡愁莫不躍然紙上。林文月選譯最著名的十篇，詳加注釋，每篇附有譯後小記。
