The background of the author, Leung, is quite special. As he spoken in the preface, he is now writing passages at both HK and Mainland. It is very easy for him to make comparison and draw analysis in two different angles. This book is a collection of his passages from newspapers of both places

A good point to note would be the source of the title. "Common Sense" is a book by Thomas Paine. It is a book written during the American Indepedence war. The objective is obvious - to write something that can be long lasting.
And actually some of the points do achieve this message. Like the Nobel price, now people are talking about the inventor of the fibre, Charles Ko as a US instead of a Chinese. All of the awardees are Chinese-born American. Chinese have been complaining. They are aiming for having some "pure" Chinese. Yet Leung points that it is not what we should aim for. At the time China has really been developed. We will have US-born Chinese to get the award!
