Annabel Lyon's "THE GOLDEN MEAN", though positively reviewed on Amazon, is, for me, NOT a good read. It's a fiction from Aristotle's first person's point of view, telling his story during his childhood, during the time he taught the great Alexander in Macedonia, or when he first entered Plato's Academy, etc. The narrative is not without some witty conversations and humor. Historical details carefully surveyed. However, as a novel, it's not with even the slightest sense of dramatic element and Lyon, as a writer who has studied in philosophy, does not succeed in integrating Aristotle's philosophical ideas in her narrative. She did try to unfold A's core concept of his ethics, namely the Golden Mean in her 'story', but just to a very superficial level. Conclusion: not recommended to people who like or study philosophy, neither to one who is looking for fun from a novel.
P.S. the name of the chinese translation is "My Student Alexander" (我的學生阿歷山大）is totally misleading. Alexander is only a character with secondary importance in the book. The book is mainly about Aristotle, who is an archetype of philosophical icons - a very boring person, which this novel did manage to capture the essence and his atmosphere of life (XD).
