For those who work in the finance industry, it is extremely obvious that two worlds exist, quite apart from each other - the exciting and encouraging one that you read on business newspapers, where companies make profits, leaders expand business; and the dark and cunning one that we see, where managers cheat and minority shareholders get ripped off.
Mr. Fong has been blessed with the gifts of being insightful and articulate. In this book, he brings the reader on a journey through the backstage of what you see on tv or read in newspapers - the naked movement of capital, stripped of the accounting illusions and publicity spin. Reading press releases, have you ever wondered what REALLY is going on? This book will help you get closer.
Unfortunately, given that the book is simply a compilation of Mr. Fong's newspaper articles, the educational potential is highly restricted by the short format. I would love to see, for example, the articles to be dated (to give perspective on a certain issue or company), more background on the company or event discussed, and more elaboration on concepts and terminology applied (Mr. Fong knows intimately the many tricks that managers pull from their hats, but the general audience does not).
All in all, an honest, entertaining, and insightful book about the Hong Kong stock market.
