I was only a teenager living in southern Taiwan when I read the author's first novel,"接近無限透明的藍",and maybe that's why I felt confused and somewhat uncomfortable after reading it. In the summer of 1979, I worked as a DJ in a pub partly because I was familiar with rock music and partly because I was in desperate need of money. During those days, I worked 12 hours a day. However, the smell of tobacoo smoke mixed with alcohol and over-ripe fruits always annoyed me. Moreover,amid the loud music and dim gloomy lights,sullen look,emptiness, and ecstasy took turns appearing on the faces of juvenile customers,male and female, which convinced me I was never of their type. I am glad as a midager reading this book, I can be totally objective and a bit distant in enjoying reading it simply as a good novel.
