本書為台灣大學戲劇學系「眾聲喧譁之後：2006臺灣現代劇場研討會」論文結集。書中收入論文十四篇，概分為「理論篇」、「表導演篇」、「技術設計篇」三大類別。有從當代製作文本出發，探求劇本創作、表演方法、設計美學的可能性；有從文化理論發想，試圖解讀屬於當代臺灣社會的意識型態與歷史書寫；有關注當前的劇場設計與技術及教育，指出既有和可能的概念和方向；有以「文化創意產業」的視野，討論劇場藝術作為產業的經營前景。各論對於進入千禧年後的臺灣劇場皆提出了新見，有助於思考臺灣劇場的下一步。
