科幻小說在文學史上的定位，往往被歸類於以休閒娛樂為取向的通俗小說類別之中。然而在臺灣卻有一批科幻作家和推廣者，對其抱有極高的期許。因此，在不斷的摸索嘗試之下，三十多年來，臺灣科幻亦耕耘出一片園地，成為不容忽視的文類之一。對此，本書試圖從歷史、作品主題及傳播機制等三大方向，重現當代臺灣科幻小說的發展風貌。
