《资治通鉴》是一部集体编写的历史巨著，主编是司马光，协修是刘恕、刘�和范祖禹，司马光的儿子司马康担任检阅文字的工作。它上起周威烈王二十三年（前400年），下止五代后周显德六年（959年），共1362年的历史，分为294卷，共计300多万字；另外《目录》30卷，《考异》30卷。《资治通鉴》是我国一部极为重要的编年史，它不仅给封建统治阶级提供了统治经验，同时它还具有很高的史料价值，为历代政治家、军事家、文学家和史学家所重视。
