《野草》一書出版於1927年7月，收錄1924~26年間23篇作品，最初的原貌應是雜文與小品的結合，隨著書寫方式的被認同，已經被標榜為中國第一部重要的散文詩集，跟幾部世界傑作，如波德萊爾的《巴黎的憂鬱》、屠格涅夫和泰戈爾 的散文詩作品，互相比美。書中，最為人津津樂道的是：〈秋夜〉、〈影的告別〉、〈雪〉、〈淡淡的血痕中〉等。
