  • I read coz I run

I start running about 15 months ago. Although my running experience is much lesser than the author, I understand the loneliness and challenges mentioned by the author. I do agree running doesnt limit training to your body, but your soul at the same time. I shared this book with my dad, but I guess h ... (continue)

  • Proud to Be a Runner!

Jill recommended this book to me. That's why I checked it out from the library. I was not really that interested in Murakami's books. The only one I read before this book is "The Norweigen Woods" and I didn't like it that much. So this is the second book of his that I've ever read even though he is so popular in Taiwan.
What struck me in this book from the very beginning was the sentence "Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional!" What a great sentence for a runner it is! I can't think of a better sentence to describe how a runner feels when he/she keeps running no matter what!
Besides that, there are also many details that simply strike a chord in me and tell me "Yes, that's it! We are both runners!" It is really inspiring to read the author's observation of himself and the surroundings when he runs! I truly recommend this book to everyone, sports lover or non-sports lover alike!
By the way, the author also shared his experience of training for the triathlon! It's interesting, but I don't think I'll ever try it after reading about his experience. It just takes too much time! The most I can do is probably ride a bike from home to office and then job for a while. That should be really great exercise in the morning!

  • Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
Say you’re running and you start to think, Man this hurts, I can’t take it anymore.
The hurt part is an unavoidable reality, but whether or not you can stand any more is up to the runner himself.

  • About Running...

A subdued comparison of writing and marathon races. You don't have to be a runner or a writer to enjoy the book. It is motivational with his description of his endurance and cross training.
