香江騁懷

"Early Hong Kong Transport" is one of a series of exhibitions of Hong Kong history held in collaboration with collector Cheng Po Hung. It features some 100 old photographs selected from Cheng's collection. Viewers can have a glimpse of the early development of Hong Kong public transportation over the past hundred years. Hong Kong, a gateway to Asia, is geographically strategic to some of the major travel routes in the world. The city itself is advanced in its public transportation and thus has open of the best transport systems in the world. It is easy and quick to travel around Hong Kong. Included in this exhibition are examples of different modes of public transport such as the cross-harbour Star Ferry and the Hong Kong Tram, a fleet of buses, subway trains and taxis. Black-and-white images have been chosen from old postcards to reflect how Hong Kong developed from a sparsely populated fishing village into one of the world's leading centre in Asia. To coincide with the exhibition, this catalogue written by Cheng, including nearly 300 photographs on the subject, is published.

近數年來，香港大學美術博物館舉辦一系列香港早期歷史的展覽。「香江騁懷」是今年同類型的展出活動，內容以一百幅舊照片為主，展示過去一百年香港交通的演變。由於有利的地理位置，香港成功地從昔日的小漁村蛻變成今天的亞洲大都會。但促進香港城市的發展，主要是靠進步的交通設施。透過早期的名信片和舊相，是次展覽介紹了香港開埠以來的各式交通工具，包括人力車、電車、巴士、火車、渡輪、飛機等，讓觀眾認識到原來有這麼多的動力，去推進香港成長。本書是為配合是次展覽而出版的圖錄，由香港大學美術博物館顧問鄭寶鴻撰寫，並載有近三百幅相關照片。
