  Es genial: Ishiguro es capaz de decirnos lo que siente y cómo se siente el narrador sin decirlo claramente ni una sola vez, con un dominio del lenguaje y de la psicología de los personajes simplemente fantástico. Es como el Henry James de las novelas cortas: sutil y despiadado con unos personajes que parece que salgan del texto porque, al final, todo ocurre fuera de él y es el lector el único que puede comprenderlos.
  No sé ni lo que digo: que mola, vamos.

  All'inizio pensavo che stavolta Ishiguro mi avrebb deluso: il libro fa parecchia fatica a ingranare,spacialmente nei primi due capitoli(che sono abbastanza lunghetti). Ho deciso che comunque l'avrei finito perchè non mi piace lasciare i libri a metà; da metà in poi ho ritrovato tutte quelle caratter ... (continue)

  All'inizio pensavo che stavolta Ishiguro mi avrebb deluso: il libro fa parecchia fatica a ingranare,spacialmente nei primi due capitoli(che sono abbastanza lunghetti). Ho deciso che comunque l'avrei finito perchè non mi piace lasciare i libri a metà; da metà in poi ho ritrovato tutte quelle caratteristiche che mi hanno fatto apprezzare questo autore in "A pale view of the hills" e "An artist of the floating world":pian piano si comincia a scavare nel passato di Stevens e si capiscono i perchè di tante sue reazioni,come quella alla morte del padre (uno dei passi più belli,insieme al finale). Sinceramente Stevens non è stato un personaggio che ho amato molto,troppo dedito al lavoro,al punto di negarsi la possibilità di amare,ma anche quella di esprimere semplicemente i propri sentimenti.
  Il finale del libro mi ha quasi commossa: l'incontro con miss Kenton e la rivelazione dei sentimenti da lei provati,insieme alla consapevolezza di entrambi che non si può riavvolgere il tempo e che il passato è ormai perduto,mi ha lasciata come Stevens,col cuore spezzato. Il messaggio finale di questo libro è però estremamente positivo: qualunque cosa sia successa in passato,non ci si deve focalizzare solo su di esso,ma andare avanti e impiegare al meglio ciò che resta del nostro giorno.

  Good good book. Love the fact that you can read between the lines for Stevens' commentary and realise that Lord Darlington suppported the Nazis in spite of what Stevens said and that Ms Kenton had feelings for him.

  BELLISSIMO libro dal quale è stato tratto un altrettanto BELLISSIMO film. Da leggere assolutamente se si ama la grande narrazione.
