Roald Dahl's children's classic will be rediscovered with wonder and delight in this handsome gift edition with all-new black-and-white illustrations by Caldecott Honor Book artist Lane Smith (who also designed the characters for the Disney animated film).  How James escapes from his miserable life with two nasty aunts and becomes a hero to his new insect family, including Miss Spider, the Old-Green-Grasshopper, the Centipede (with his 21 pairs of gorgeous boots), is Dahl-icious fantasy at its best.

  • What's not to love...

Aw this was just a lovely children's book. Its such a brilliant story its obvious why it was such a big hit with kids and remains a popular kids book to this day. I don't have kids yet but I know that when I do they will all be Roald Dahl lovers if I have anything to do with it!

Okay, I had seen the movie way before I knew the book existed, but then I read back in 2003 and I liked it, but on a whim I decided to read it again in one night, and I fell in love with it. I actually had this whole new appreciation for its comical quips.

I love Mr. Earthworm, he is so entertaining and I just love his character. Really all of them are wonderful, but he just stood out.
Ms. Ladybug and Ms. Spider were also very high favorites.

The adventures of the peach and the marvelous things that James and his insect friends encounter are all made of the things children imagine in their dreams and fantasy games.

This book is a must read and I must have a copy.

  • Totally dreamy, with a lot of surprises and turn overs, very very visual. That's the reason is often used in Creative Labs. Good one but my favorite by Dahl is still Witches!

  • As good as ever!

Just finished reading this the second time around...this time to my daughter! From now on, it will always be a favourite of both of ours.

  • A great children's book! I remember when I read it back in elementary school that it had won some prestigious award.
