Book Description

Ralph Roberts hasn't been sleeping well lately. Every morning he wakes just a little bit earlier until pretty soon, he isn't sleeping at all. It wouldn't be so bad if not for the strange hallucinations--and the nightmares that keep coming to life.

  • INSOMNIA

(read full critics)

  • A dodgy nightcap

Insomnia - a good subject for a horror novel. The severely afflicted can experience terrifying hallucinations and they're often awake in the hours before dawn, when dark thoughts encroach. Stephen King's twentieth publication, Insomnia, starts off li ... (read full critics)

  • My personal favourite

I do have to admit that I started loving Stephen King's work (novels, short stories and films) at the very early age. I was maybe 13 years old. And so fare I have managed to read and see quite a lot of his work. BUT, with out any doubt in my mind I have to say, this one is the best of King. Placed somewhere between his "social" novels like Dolores Claiborne and his mystery/horror novels like Desperation, Insomnia tells, on one side, a story of life, loneliness and being old, and on the other side he puts his characters in horror and mystery that only King is capable of creating. Starting slowly (as he always does) he makes you love and hate his characters, and then he rushes them with the speed of light into the turmoil of kingsian horror. A masterpiece from the pen of Stephen King.

  • Insomnia

Insomnia seems to be Stephen King's attempt at a morality tale, which succeeds with mixed results. He creates a cast of memorable characters. Insomnia seems to be Stephen King's attempt at a morality tale, which succeeds with mixed results. He creates a cast of memorable characters. I found his use of an elderly couple as his hero/heroine to be both unique and charming and the epilogue (that continues to follow these characters) is, without a doubt, touching. King's lurking references to his other works also surface here (s0mething I've always enjoyed in his work). On the other hand there, are a quite few times when the story starts becoming rather ridiculous and laughable - not a response I think the author had intended. Over all, it's not a bad read if you have the time.

  • I need to read Stephen King's Dark Tower Series. I quite enjoyed this and Black House, but I'm aware that they are tangental to this series so I'd get more out of them if I did.
