  • From Africa back to Scotland

The publishing world is full of romantic stories, not every one with a happy ending. (I was brought up on the tale, possibly apocryphal, that Evelyn Waugh’s brother-in-law, Edward Grant, kept a framed copy of his letter turning down Gone with the Win ... (read full critics)

  • The Sunday Philosophy Club is the first of a series of novels with Isabel Dalhousie. Probably this is not the best series from the author of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (which I enjoyed a lot!) but it's nice. I think I'll go on with the other novels.

As with any of the Alexander McCall Smith series (No1 Lady's Detective Agency, Scotland Street, Sunday Philosphy Club etc...) every new book is like meeting friends you haven't seen in a while, and you're never disappointed.

I often think about some of the characters as if they were real...and that does not happen with all the books a read !
I sometimes wish I haven't start reading them...
    Enjoy !!

He was familiar with that. Something terrible happened and people began to shake. It was the reminder that frightened them; the reminder of just how close to the edge we are in life, always, at every moment.

I would like to give this book 5 stars. :D
