This book takes dedication to read--not only is it massive, but it's also not exactly what I would call a page turner. That said, I would definitely encourage anyone interested in historical fiction and/or fantasy to give it glance. It's very interesting, meticulously researched, and well-written.

The very language and expressions used by Clarke reflect the typical, polite, ossequious speech of 1800, but this gets never, never boring. Upon the contrary, it catches the reader's eye and leads his mind to a London where the pure academic studies of Magic are being changed with the real praxis: spells and supernatural events will make the reader see another face of London, with unexpectable magic quests during the war against Napoleon.
