    • I usually do not like vampire stories, but this is a completely different kind. The historical and scholarly aspect is fascinating. Pick up this book if you are in the mood for something smart!

    • I bought this book used, for reading on a flight from Philadelphia to London. It turned out to be a great idea, since I had never had such an enjoyable trip. It's not the best book in the world, but the story is interesting and the variety in writing style keeps things fresh, despite how long it is.

I'm not sure how many stars to give this book. The first third of the book, while well written, was poorly paced. This is a book about Dracula, it should be gripping! The first third of the book is not. I have heard that this author spent about 10 years writing this book. I can believe that after reading it because the author seems to grow as the book progresses. Once we get to around the halfway point she has dramatically improved her pacing of the story and we finally have our gripping read. 3 stars for the first third of the book, 5 stars for the rest.

Book Description

After a young girl discovers her father's darkest secret, she embarks on a harrowing journey across Europe to complete the quest he never could-to find history's most legendary fiend, Dracula. When a motherless American girl living in Europe finds a medieval book and a package of letters, all addressed ominously to 'my dear and unfortunate successor,' she begins to unravel a thread that leads back to her father's past, his mentor's career, and an evil hidden in the depths of history.
