I think the shopoholic series is much better and more convincing than this book.

The shopololic is a finance journalist, who has the same background os Sophie Kinsella. Therefore the story and the job description in the book actually make sense. However, the heroine of this book is a lawyer who works as a housekeeper - for one thing I don't believe the writer knows how to bake or did enough research on housekeeping before she wrote the book. It is also hard to believe that a person with a "top legal brain" can be so indecisive and naive. Also, the story didn't even bother to explain the big evil plot behind story, but only told us investigators were digging, and that's it. (We want to know the details!)

In any case, this is a light and entertaining book, and as the press described, is a good accessary for the beach.

I did not read what this book was about prior to reading it because the title was pretty self explanatory. Samantha is a workaholic lawyer and mistakenly gets hired as a housekeeper. It's quite funny what she is expected to do in her new job and the fact that she can't even cook and hasn't a clue how to clean a thing. She develops a crush on the gardener and the story gets better from there. I especially like the plot about Samantha losing her position as a lawyer and how it all ends up at the end of the book. Definitely was surprised at how good a read this book turned out to be.

Sweeting's character is empowering. Humbly accepted the mistake of being a helper and tried not to outsmart everyone even though she has all the chance to do so. And though she has been too naïve to be framed up by her other colleague, she’s still the sophisticated intelligent woman who managed to brought back her good reputation and to make things possible again. She embraced her new life after gaining back all those hardships she went through being a lawyer. Sweeting clearly depicted how woman should be – she knows when to run away and accept defeat, when to stop, gives new experience and knowledge a chance even if she is considered to be one of the most intelligent people in her profession and the fact how some things in life could be learned in such unexpected and easy way.

Light read. Not too romantic and funny.
