  • The War of the Worlds By H.G. Wells

Atrue hallmark of summer is the arrival of a blockbuster disaster movie; this time around director Steven Spielberg, who's got a pretty good track record, delivers the goods on June 29. Spielberg is bringing the much-adapted H.G. Wells sci-fi classic ... (read full critics)

Well, I think Wells really deserves his fame.
The War of the Worlds is novel first published in 1898, but it could even been published after decades, losing nothing of its literary and moral strenght.
I really like writers who use science fictions to analyse and criticise both faults and the good action of Mankind.
Perhaps I could not agree totally with his thought and his fears, but eventually there's no doubt he was an avant-guarde minded.

The War of the Worlds is one of those unparalleled classic books that exceed the quality of their movie adaptations.

Not that I didn't like Spielberg's version of this literary masterpiece (in fact I loved it), but it certainly falls somewhat more than short when compared to its inspiring counterpart.

The book greatly succeds at giving the precise amount of details needed to fancy both: characters and sceneries where the action takes place without spoiling the overall suspense of the environment that envelopes the story.

It is truly satisfaying for those of us who liked the 2005 movie to be more acquainted with many facts that happen swiftly in the film.

So, nevermind whether or not you loved the 2005 film adaptation, this book is a must.
