Although the characters can feel like caricatures at times, this book changed the way that I think in many respects and has been a great motivator in my research, particularly when times are tough. One of my favorite books and would be included on any trip to a desert island.

Atlas Shrugged is preachy, forced, spectacularly anti-feminist, and a failure as a work of fiction (in that the fiction is but a vehicle for the sermons in which Rand lectures her readers through her characters). I was reading this book as the world economy was imploding last fall, and I had a hard time believing Rand wrote this in the 1940's/1950's.
