Quite gruesome at times (not for the squeamish).
Well paced, psychological thriller.
That villain you love to hate (or just love. =D).
Not a "cozy" or "lazy" read, it engages the mind.
The sequel is, arguably, even better (if slightly more trying where the "back story" is concerned).

My favorite book of Thomas Harris. In my opinion this is the best of the series.
