Book Description

The request sounds simple: solve a crime. Except there are no clues as to what happened, when it occurred, where it was committed, or for that matter, to whom. For Miss Jane Marple, it's the most baffling-and final-case of her illustrious career.

Roth is on his usual patch – the jewish community in New Jersey. It is the summer of 1944 and Bucky Cantor is a young man who embodies the spirit of the All-American hero. He is a natural athlete, strong, determined, principled, just, a role model to ... (read full critics)

  • Nemesis, By Philip Roth

Nemesis is short, but as rich and nourishing as fillet steak. Bucky Cantor is a Jewish physical instructor, not tall, but of Herculean build, an expert diver and javelin thrower. His weak eyes have prevented him from following his friends to fight in ... (read full critics)

  • Not the best Christie out there

I always expect a certain something from Agatha Christie and this did not match up to those expectations.

Normally, I am hooked to the Christie book the moment I start it and cannot stop until I find out "whodunnit". But in this book, I found that it dragged on at bits. Many passages, pages, and indeed chapters, were devoted to Miss Marple's thoughts on the matter at hand...which turned out to be VERY long-winded and ultimately boring. And what's more, I could guess quite early on "whodunnit" so there wasn't much excitement as there usually is with Christie book for me.

All in all, you should read it if you are a Christie fan just for the sake of reading all of her books. You'll be able to bear it...just. But if you're not, I advise you not to read it because you'll form a bad opinion of ALL her books from just this one and let me tell you that this is NOT one of her best or even one of her good ones.

    Rant over.
