    I certainly identified with Holden as a 14-year old boy.

  • I had read this as a high-schooler and remember really enjoying it. This time around (many years later) I had a harder time relating to Holden. My adult perspective found him both immature and negative. Still enjoyed the story though.

The story of Holden Caulfield, a 16 year-old schoolboy, whose life spirals out of
control during a weekend in Manhattan. Holden is on a quest for truth but finds
nothing but phonies around him. He is on the cusp of becoming an adult but can
only relate to the innocence of children. He trawls bars, stays in seedy hotels, hires
a prostitute and drinks with friends but it all makes him feel worse
