  I read Paul Auster’s script Smoke years ago, but I still count this Moon Palace as the first time I read his work. To be honest I can’t say I love the book a whole lot, but the language as well as the monologue-like narration are enormous impressive. Auster has the power to put you in the mind of our hero. The descriptive depict of the entangled footpath of the characters also bring the readers an air of mystery. Actually the book reminds me of Murakami, one of my favourite writer’s best work ever, Kafka on the Shore. The adventure of the heroes is very much alike, and the notions of fate, of love often resonate. I haven’t checked the writing background of the book, but it occurs to me the hero is a part of the author, that I believe Paul Auster was the young man who was so desperately in search of himself.

  Paul Auster's David Copperfield. Terrible stuff. One of the bleakest thing I have ever laid eyes on. I didn't even have the heart to review it (so don't take this as one), after so many months, the bitter taste that I was left with upon finishing this unsightly saga is still there. It was all the more pitiful that Kitty happened to be one of my favorite Auster characters and one of his loveliest. And it was all the more ironic for me to have the honor to relive what Kitty said to Marco towards the end of the book. Parallel to the period when the book was read. Synchronicity at its worst. Relive might not be the most precise description I fear, more like an allegorical record. For that reason that climatic conversation between Kitty and Fogg had imprinted itself upon me.

  A very plausible portrayal of human nature, which doesn't make it any less unsightly. I should add that it repels me only next to the book of illusion.
