Three cassettes / 4 hours 30 mins.

Stanley Yelnats isn't so surprised when a miscarriage of justice sends him to a juvenile detention center.  After all, his family has been ridden with bad luck ever since a one-legged gypsy put a curse on his great-great grandfather.  He is told that the hard labor he must perform...digging 5 foot holes in the dried up soil where Green Lake once sat...is meant to build character.  But is soon becomes clear to Stanley that the warden is really using the boys to search for something very valuable.  The story of the hidden treasure, alone with the warden, Stanley's friend Zero, and the curse on the Yelnats family are all part of a compelling puzzle that has taken generations to unravel.

A very "hard working" book that thrives to send the message that HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF! Plots are well thought about and the story loops back to form a beautiful ending where justice is achieved: the boys are sent home (no more labour yay!) and the bad guys at camp are thrown in jail. I love the past stories that tie themselves to the present. Lovely read. ONIONS!!! :D They are very good for you indeed as said in the books!

If you're looking for adventure, occasionally emotional, great storyline, and simple youth humour... this is it! Dig it people :)

I remember reading this book and falling head over heals in love with everything about it. It has such a richly involving story that one cannot help but wish they had friends like the ones described in this gem of a book.

The plot was so rich and vibrant. The history was all there, the accuracy and way things all strung together, it made this book a gooey wonder, like a freshly cracked open candy bar and was so succulent in every which way that it had to be savored over and over.

When I finished this book for the first time, I began re reading right away and I have this book as an always favorite. Absolutely brilliant and fun.

  • Poor Stanley. He was so innocent as well. I definitely would not like to Camp Green Lake. But I really like the flashbacks between the events.
