Another favorite of mine. This work was recently adapted for television in the UK (sadly, unavailable on region 1 dvd), but it's easy to see why. Books starring Death are always good. It's amazing how often the presence of a character who is by no means human will focus the book on humanity: what it is, how it behaves, what it believes in... and why it actually has to believe in something.
