The book Jaws is written by Peter Benchley. It is very popular as the movie made by Steven Spielberg. Jaws is the story about Amity - a beach town in USA whose is now visited by a great white shark. The shark starts to gobble up people who get into the water. This gives headaches to the town cop who wants the beach closed until the shark is gone. But, the townsfolk are opposed to the idea since they depend heavily on the tourist business. So, the story leads to an ultimate fight to the death between man and animal.

The book is divided into 3 parts. Part 1 is really rivetting and good. Part 2 destroys the book by creating a relationship between two of the characters which adds nothing to the story. Steven Spielberg has thankfully not put this into the movie. Part 3 is where the cop, a fisherman and a shark researcher band together to search and kill the shark.

So, which is better - the book or the movie? The movie wins easily. The movie is different in a lot of places and it is better in all of them. The book concentrates more on the people while the movie goes equally for the shark and the people. Also, this book is nowhere as good as Peter's other book I've read - The Beast.
