A brutal struggle in the cutthroat computer industry; a shattering psychological game of cat and mouse; an accusation of sexual harassment that threatens to derail a brilliant career...this is the electrifying core of Michael Crichton's new novel, the first since Rising Sun.

At the center: Tom Sanders, an up-and-coming executive with DigiCom in Seattle, a man whose corporate future is certain. Until: after a closed-door meeting with his new boss -- a woman who was his lover ten years before, a woman who has been promoted to the position he expected to have -- he is accused of sexually harassing her. Now he finds himself trapped between what he knows to be true and what he knows others will assume to be the truth. And, as he uncovers an electronic trail into the company's secrets, he begins to grasp just how cynical and manipulative an abuse of truth has actually occurred...

Tackling one of the most divisive issues of our time, Disclosure compels us to see beyond our traditional responses. It is Michael Crichton at his best.

Michael Crichton's novels include The Terminal Man, Congo, Sphere, Jurassic Park, and Rising Sun.

  • You probably saw the movie with Michael Douglas (I think!). The book is a lot better (Isn't it always?). This is about sexual harassment. It is Michael Chrichton at his galvanizing best.

  • I was just entertained. I like when someone explores how power is handled in big companies. And this is what this book is about. It’s mainly about power in workplace. And it'is not (only) about sexual harassment.

I haven't seen the movie yet which stars Michael Douglas and Demi Moore. Crichton brings to the fore two old lovers who are now competing for the top position in a technology company. Meredith invites Tom over to her office for a meeting and the next day both of them accuse each other of sexual harrasement. Into this mix, Crichton adds computers, databases, networks, virtual reality and cellphone technology (remember that the book was published in 1994) for an intriguing thriller which I couldn't stop reading until I hit the last page. Good.

I fell in love with audiobooks thanks to this book. I'd grabbed it because it was a Crichton novel, and I'd just read Jurassic Park and a few others. I happened upon an edition at my public library read by John Lithgow, and he was absolutely amazing--able to switch smoothly from his "reader" voice to voice the female, Hispanic lawyer character. Unbelievable.

If you see that version at a bookseller or at your library, it's worth buying/checking out just for his performance alone.
