There is nothing I like more then finding a book I can really sink my teeth into. I love it when a book is so good I find myself thinking about it when I'm not reading it. I love when a book is an easy read not because the content is frivalous, but the writing is fluid and well paced. I love books that have epic story lines and diverse characters. I love historical fiction that is well researched but not "preachy". As a relatively slow reader, I love being able to read 100+ pages in one go without batting an eye. I love this book because it provides all these things.
If you're looking for a book with emotional depth and contemplative prose, move along.
If you're looking to invest yourself in a long and thrilling tale, look no further.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars
Suggested With: An oversized chair and a tankard of ale. ;)

Historical saga with a medical twist

Ken Follett continues the tale of Kingsbridge around 1300 when a new generation of interesting individuals come to life. The writer's architectural interest complements the story once more. And this time the slowly evolving medical science of those times has joined his pallet. A combination of love, ... (continue)

And this time the slowly evolving medical science of those times has joined his pallet. A combination of love, hate, treachery, cunning and the plague will take hold of your imagination and won't let go until you finish the tale.

High expectations for the sequel of Pillars of the Earth

A rather intense read. The story is full of passion, and violence - and astonishingly lots of blunt sexuality. World without end is very well researched, delving into the microsm of life in a feudal society and the mingling politics of archbishops, kings and merchants.

I did prefer The Pillars of the Earth which I still remember years afer reading it for the firt time. Although Ken Follett has wrote yet another amazing story, it does not quite match the unique audacity as well as the unusual, deeply touching characters found in the first book. But please do read this book. It wil be time well spent.

  • 2/1 - a long time between Pillars of the Earth and this sequel for me. I didn't have the same 'wow' reaction but liked the telling of the tale very much…I'm glad I slipped to the back to see who was still around of my fav characters tho :-] (I was grabbed enough to CARE...)

  • Not Worth the enormous number of pages

I read Pillars of the Earth years ago and loved it. Either I have changed over the years or this was nowhere near in the same league. I never really got to like or know the characters fully and found it a struggle to keep going to the end. A pity!

  • I loved Pillars of the Earth, but never quite fell in love with World Without End. I guess the biggest difference is that I couldn't get as attached to the characters. Anyway, I love the way Follett writes. He is a great story-teller.
