  • What Not to Wear

There’s some evidence that middle-aged heavy metal rock stars lead quiet, blameless lives, doing nothing more satanic than working on their golf and riding A.T.V.’s. But things are very different for Judas Coyne, the protagonist of Joe Hill’s first n ... (read full critics)

  • Gripping supernatural story, was hooked right until the end, both with this and 'horns'. However, i think he runs out of steam a bit when it comes to writing endings.

It is very well written and digs under the reader's skin from the early stages, and remains balanced until the end. Some passages seem taken straight from King's recent works, but mostly Joe Hill found his own voice to deal with similar - but not identical - themes.
    Creepy, and so good.

... this is a wild ride! The horror and ghost story both were done superbly. Hill tightly plotted his story to include a lot of detail, but moved the narrative at a faster pace than do most of today's horror writers. Hill did stretch the bubble on the gore factor but he still stayed in the area of my acceptance. The idea of buying a ghost, which kicks the entire thing off, is quite unique. Hill also comes up with canine ghosts to protect the hero. I'll have to research that. It may be a first. Anyway, this was a ghost story I'll re-read several times.

  • Like father, like son

Good book - quite a simple story and little bit predictable as it went on. But had some good shocks in it.
Very similar style to his dad (Stephen King) - not just in genre, but something about the tone of writing too. If you're a SK fan, I can recommend this.
