Sharing Learning Objects in an Open Perspective

This publication contains the points of view and experiences of ten European partner arising from their involvement in SLOOP, an innovative trans-European project developed under the EU's Leonardo da Vinci programme.
The aim of the SLOOP project is to promote the creation and sharing of free/open learning objects following the model of the free/open source software movement.
To this end the project has developed a range of MetaLOs, short on-line courses that faciliatates skills in the production and sharing of Learning Objects as well as a virtual environment in which to do so: the FreeLOms environment, a new type of Content Management System (CMS) which allows communities of teachers to search for, modify, re-use and share sets of digital educational resources.

In this publication case-studies shed light on various different topics within today's eLearning space including the collaborative sharing and construction of knowledge and resources, the development of SCORM-compliant Learning Objects, the integration of face-to-face and on line learning, the potential represented by communities of practice, the capacity of eLearning to facilitate the learning of difficult concepts, and much more!
