Book Description
本书从近代中国正统士大夫的文化心理、认识心理与社会心理三个层面上展开分析，考察他们对于异质文化的排斥态度、极端保守和少数先觉者内心的苦闷与压抑。
作者认为，近代儒家文化缺乏一种在西方挑战面前，进行自我更新的内部机制，难以实现从传统观念向近代观念的历史转变，从而只能继续以传统为自我中心的文化心理和陈旧的认识思维框架，来被动地处理种种事态与危局。由于观念与现实的严重悖离，近代儒家文化从而陷入自身难以摆脱的困境。
