Percy Jackson's seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodgeball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get . . . well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy's friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed.

In this fresh, funny, and hugely anticipated follow up to The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family -- one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

Before reading this book, perhaps it will be better for you to read Homer's Odyssey first (or at least have some background knowledge), because you'll meet all kinds of monsters and nymphs, especially the Cyclops and Circe.

The Cyclops part is really funny. It repeated Odysseus's taunting about "Nobody," and I can't help burst out laughing when I read the part when Annabeth imitated Odysseus to provoke the Cyclops.

This book is much more interesting than The Lightning Thief, with exciting plots and unexpected turns. The ending is also very surprising, and this makes me eager to move onto book 3. However, the winter vacation has come to an end. T^T

  • As book one, this book is a page turner. The author took factors from the Golden Fleece and the Odyssey. I could not help looking for how these factors were twisted to get into the story. This is the next installment of the Percy Jackson series. To tell you the truth, I liked this book the least out of the five. I didn't like the whole Golden Fleece incident. This is the next installment of the Percy Jackson series. To tell you the truth, I liked this book the least out of the five. I didn't like the whole Golden Fleece incident. What I did like was the end when Thalia became human again. I had so many predictions of what was going to happen in the next book of the series and my predictions weren't right. I would recommend this book, but it wasn't the best in the series.
